The Pennsylvania
Environmental Council (PEC) is a nonprofit organization
that protects and restores the natural and built environments
through innovation, collaboration, education and advocacy.
PEC believes in the value of partnerships with the private
sector, government, communities and individuals to improve
the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
The Sharing Stewardship program is the result of PEC’s
long-standing work with land trust organizations to promote
community-driven conservation, ensure better stewardship
strategies, and support of sustained protection of natural
resources.
Sharing Stewardship Principals:
John Walliser ,
Esq.
John is the Director of the Sharing
Stewardship program for PEC. John has been working
directly with land trust staff, volunteers and board
members for more than ten years on issues relating
to land acquisition, stewardship practices, and organization
diligence. He has been published on the subject of
conservation easement law and has presented to numerous
professional associations and nonprofit organizations. John
also serves on the board of directors of two regional land
trusts.

Cyril
A. Fox, Esq.
Cy is a Professor Emeritus
of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. For
more than 33 years he taught courses related to property,
real estate, environmental and natural resources law. He
has written and lectured in these areas and has worked
with PEC in developing the Sharing Stewardship materials.
He also is a past president of the Energy and Mineral Law
Foundation (formerly the Eastern Mineral Law Foundation).

Lisa
Smith
Lisa is a consulting
ecologist. Her experience includes more than 15 years
serving as a heritage ecologist and director of Stewardship
for a noted regional land trust, a professional consultant,
as well as a volunteer and board member for several local
and national conservation organizations. Lisa’s focus
is on promoting and facilitating effective inventory, management
and monitoring of natural lands held by land trusts and
public land agencies.

Paul
g. Wiegman
Paul was associated with the
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for 28 years.
During
that time, his responsibilities ranged from naturalist,
preparing the first list of Natural Areas for Pennsylvania,
the first list of Rare and Endangered Plants for Pennsylvania,
and locating natural area projects for the Conservancy.
At the end of his tenure he was Vice President for Science
and Stewardship and was responsible for the PA Natural
Heritage Diversity Inventory and stewardship of over 6,000
acres of Conservancy-owned Natural Areas. Since leaving
the Conservancy, Paul has been a consulting naturalist
for wind industry projects in western Pennsylvania
and Ohio, a writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review
and actively working on several photographic projects.
